Three basic types of media are available:
- Glass Fibre
- Synthetic Fibre
- Reticulated Polyurethuane Foam
Each can be used in ventilation and air-conditioning systems, either as a main filter or as a pre-filter to higher efficiency units.
In pad form, each would normally be used in conjunction with the Pad Frame system described in leaflet AC1/4, but can be supplied in pad, sheet or roll form to fit existing installations or clients' own holding frames.
Glass Fibre Media
This material is produced from a continuously spun glass filament into a graded blanket. A finer laminate backing increases filtration efficiency, and also helps to reduce fibre migration into the airstream.
The media is normally supplied coated with a viscous agent, which is applied during the manufacturing process and increases the dust holding capacity and efficiency.
It is available in 1/2", 1", 2", 3" and 4" nominal thickness' in both roll and pad form.
Standard lengths are as follows:
- 0.5" - 180 metres
- 1" - 90 metres
- 2" - 60 metres
- 3" - 20 metres
- 4" - 20 metres
Synthetic Fibre Media
Manufactured from synthetic fibres which when laid produce a range of multi-directional fibrous material of differing weights and thicknesses.
There are available to meet a wide range of filter requirements from coarse to fine, some products being able to withstand a cleaning operation, others being disposable.
These materials are supplied in rolls or cut pads as required.
Polyurethane Foam Media
Reticulated (de-membraned) polyurethane foam is available in varying densities designated from 10ppi to 80ppi (pores per inch).
The washable material can be used in any practical thickness and the range of pore sizes available covers a wide area of efficiencies, particularly since different porosites can be bonded together in tandem to produce the desired efficiency using a graded filtration mechanism.
The material is available in sheets 2m x 1m or in cut pads as required. |
